Description

This is a 4 panel Mosaic in HA captured with 60 second and 5 minutes exposures of the Lagoon Nebula (M8 or NGC 6523) which is a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius.  It is classified as an emission nebula and as a H II region. It is estimated to be between 4,000-6,000 light-years away from the Earth and 90' by 40' is size and about 110 by 50 light years across.  The nebula contains a number of dark, collapsing clouds of proto-stellar material called Bok globules.

Very well placed for a long run and a really good night of exceptional seeing (HFR around 1.5-1.8 ) came together close to the new moon and allowed me to acquire 166 exposures  over 4 1/4 hours of HA  ... and I even managed to get to bed at a reasonable hour :-)

I will probably get to do another run tonight in OIII.
